Can indefinite detention be ended through the courts?
Posted by ldsg on 25/08/09

Leading human rights solicitor Sue Willman of Pierce Glynn Solicitors will speak at London Detainee Support Group's AGM on whether the current approach to immigration detention comply with the Home Office's human rights obligations. The AGM is at Shoreditch Town Hall Council Chamber at 6:45pm on Monday 21 September 2009. The meeting will also be an update on the progress of the campaign to end indefinite immigration detention.

Pierce Glynn has successfully represented a number of immigration detainees in High Court judicial reviews. Most recently Sue has secured the release of a seriously mentally ill man detained for four years. The success rate in these cases suggests that many detainees are unlawfully detained in a situation which is causing or aggravating psychiatric problems. At the AGM we will discuss the possibility that indefinite detention could be ended by concerted legal and policy work.

Date/ time: 6:45pm, Monday 21 September 2009
Address: Council Chamber, Shoreditch Town Hall, 380 Old Street, London EC1V 9LT
