Colnbrook
Information on Colnbrook Immigration Removal Centre
Colnbrook is a new centre, which opened at the start of September 2004. It has a capacity of 326, and like Harmondsworth is a centre for single men. It includes a Short Term Holding Centre, where detainees of either gender can be held for a few days. Colnbrook is operated by a private security company called Serco, under contract to the Home Office.
Detainees are locked in their rooms at night, and during the day for roll-calls. There is no freedom of movement around the centre - detainees are locked on their wing unless they have booked to use the facilities, in which case they are escorted by officers. Detainees can access facilities including computers, with internet, gym, TV / association rooms, library and education.
How to get there
The nearest underground station is Heathrow Terminals 1-3. The U3 bus goes from the central bus station, just outside the underground station. The bus takes about 10 minutes. It goes through a tunnel, round a roundabout and then turns left out of the airport. Get off at the third stop after the left turn, just before the bus turns right at some traffic lights. Cross over at the lights and carry on walking down this road (Bath Rd / Colnbrook Bypass) for about five minutes. Harmondsworth and Colnbrook are on the right, immediately after the Sheraton Hotel. The two centres share a common drive; Colnbrook is on the right. There is a car park, but space is limited and it is sometimes full. Visitors should go the out-building in front of the main building.

Visiting hours are 2pm-9pm daily, including weekends and public holidays. Visits do not need to be booked in advance with the centre. Visitors need to bring proof of identity (passport or driving licence) and proof of address (bill or bank statement).
